Cosmetic RENOVATION - KEW

This apartment was originally in dire need of a facelift prior to its sale. I was tasked with updating the space and styling the property to enhance its best attributes and maximise its selling price.

The primary basis of this cosmetic renovation was to completely revamp the colour scheme, furnish and style the space to create an urban modern vibe, within a modest budget.

THE PROPERTY

The property is a two bedroom apartment in the Sackville ward in Kew. Two balconies flanked either end of the home. The open plan living room and kitchen had a favourable North- Western aspect. The kitchen took up a large part of the open plan space. At the rear the two bedrooms opened up onto a large patio.

PROJECT ASSESSMENT

The open concept kitchen, dining and living room was spacious, yet looked cramped and dark due to the natural lighting being blocked by timber venetian blinds at the front and heavy curtaining at the rear. The outdoor spaces were unloved and largely unused.

The kitchen and floors were almost the same shades of orange-brown and featured a dark brown splash back. Heavy carpeting and furniture added to the gloomy feel of the home.

A new design and colour scheme were essential to linking the indoors and outdoors and creating a sense of flow. Fresh window coverings were required to make the most of the natural light.

PROJECT DETAILS

A new colour scheme of white and grey was introduced. The paint colour was updated to a white with a grey undertone, in the interior and exterior. Window coverings were updated to provide increased light to the rooms and extended the indoors out.

The old backsplash was replaced with a contemporary, white textured tile. The kitchen cabinets were resurfaced in white, while the island remained as a feature in its original earthy tone. This allowed relief from the starkness of an all white kitchen.

The existing floorboards were stained in a darker shade that added contrast. New salt and pepper carpeting added a luxe feel to the bedrooms.

Urban modern furniture replaced the existing pieces. Artwork and soft furnishings were added to create a sense of warmth and sophistication.
